So many times I’ve seen people make the mistake of consistently posting pictures that are absolutely pointless and my finger can’t hit the unfollow button fast enough. I enjoy seeing pictures and videos that add value to my life and therefore, I always strive to do the same for my followers. However, I sometimes get into a funk where I really don’t feel like being very social and so don’t post anything. There are other times when that funk unravels itself into a pity party of comparison and for my well being I decide to stay off social media. Your mental health should be your number one priority, you know how when you’re on a plane and the flight attendant advices everyone that in case of an emergency you must put your air mask on before helping anyone else out? Well that is specifically said because you are no use to anyone if you can’t help yourself out first, as dramatic as that example may be this scenario is no different.
So in this post I’m going to share some tips on how to care for your mental health and get back on track to feeling inspired and sharing valuable content with the world.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Look for events happening in your area that are completely out of your comfort zone. Sure sometimes it can be completely scary but once you do you’ll be a better and stronger person. However, “getting out of your comfort zone” doesn’t have to necessarily mean you leave the comfort of your own home, you can make that one call you’ve dreaded making for days, or if its not too personal share what you’re growing through on your social media. You’ll be surprised just how much other resonate with what you’re going through. Being vulnerable for me is scary in general, and opening myself up to strangers is completely out of my comfort zone but the times that I have opened up I’ve been nothing but grateful because it gave me the opportunity to connect on a deeper level with people I would have otherwise thought we had nothing in common.
Read a good book.
Books are my favorite get away. While I understand most people would rather watch a movie, listen to their favorite type of music, or watch a tv show/youtube channel hear me out on this one. Reading can stimulate your brain much more than any video can, leading you to activate and/or enhance your imagination. Once you’re all done you’ll hopefully be up and running with new ideas for posts. One book I would recommend is The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield
One good way to dissect your thoughts is to simply journal them out. This way you can say what you are really thinking without feeling judged. Once you are done writing out your emotions, sit quietly for a moment and evaluate if any new emotions have arisen after finished journaling. This can help you find a new perspective on your situation by first creating self-awareness. If no new emotions have come about simply go about your day, and the next day re-read what you wrote and see if you can see your situation from a new light. You’ll be surprised what comes about!
Be around positive people.
I know we’ve all hear the cliche saying “show me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”, “birds of a feather flock together” etc. but to some extent they are true. So when you’re going through stuff its important to surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage you to live a happy and prosperous life. If not having those kind of people around is the root of the problem then maybe its time to put yourself out there and begin meeting new people! Some ways of “getting yourself out there” might be by going to a meetup in your city, a comedy show, volunteering at a charity, or enrolling in a class to learn a new skill. You’re an amazing person (you are reading this blog after all) so you deserve to be surrounded by like minded individuals who see that in you too!
Have a “me” day.
Lastly, have a “Me” day! Where you do your favorite activities, as if it was your birthday. For example, I really enjoy going to get my nails done and once I’m done I go home and prepare a nice bath for myself. My perfect bath includes, epsom salt, essentials oils and a cool colored bath bomb! Whatever your favorite activities are, do them…you don’t need it to be your official birthday to celebrate the great person you are!
In conclusion, the world needs more people who shine they light. So please do us all a favor and shine yours! Have a blessed day 🙂
