It’s that time of the year again, where whatever type of social media you are logging into, you can’t escape
new year new me posts. We all know that is total crap but here are a few validated reasons why that saying needs to be dropped. FUTURE TENSE. When people say that god awful quote they are already setting themselves up for failure, they are putting themselves in the future..when the future hasn’t even came yet. All we ever have is the present moment we are living in, and we cheat ourselves when we don’t consciously choose to change our habits in the present moment.
“Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”― Gautama Buddha. I’ve always loved this quote, it reminds me that every morning we have the chance to start over. Having clear goals for the type of day you want to have is always helpful. I think a lot of the time people get overwhelmed when they think about “all of the stuff” they have to do, in these cases it is most helpful to break down a big task into small actions and as long as you have completed some of the “small actions” on your list you have technically come close to completing your big task, and that should be celebrated!
In the end it doesn’t matter how long you are going to live, it matters HOW you are going to live every single day. In your lifetime we can never know for certain just how many new years you will see, the only thing y o u know for certain is how you want to live them. Some people live rich and full lives for a short amount of years, and others live to be 50 something and still admit that they are trying to find their life’s purpose. Live every day fully, give all that you have to whatever activity you are taking part in…and at the end of the day reflect on the positive things that happened for you and what you would like to do better tomorrow. I do this in my head, and when I have had a day I would like to remember I use Grid Diary (non-affiliated) it helps me put my day in perspective. There have been many times that I “think” I’ve had a bad day, and when I step back and ponder on it and really analyze it.. I realize just how blessed I am to have lived through those moments because even though they might have inflicted some pain I have come out with a bigger lesson for the next day.
In the end, don’t put off what you could be doing today for tomorrow or next year. Regardless of where you are in life it is never too late to make a new beginning.
